Amanda Crum, LMFT

I'm Amanda Crum, an LMFT and AAMFT Approved Supervisor. I work with individuals, couples, families, and children of all ages and backgrounds. My approach is relational, systemic, collaborative, direct, and goal-oriented—but more than anything, I believe therapy should feel human.

I work a little differently than what people may expect from therapy. I don't believe healing requires you to repeatedly relive or retell every painful experience you've had. Trauma and uncomfortable situations happen, and we can't change the past. What we can do is explore how those experiences are affecting you now, process what is keeping you stuck, and help you move forward. My focus isn't on making you live in your past forever. It's on helping you understand where you've been while creating the future you want.

When I work with individuals, I offer an outside perspective, honest feedback, practical strategies, and sometimes a little challenge. I don't believe in telling you what to do with your life, but I will help you look at patterns, consider different perspectives, and hold yourself accountable to the changes you want to make.

With couples, I focus on helping you communicate in a way that actually feels natural to you. I'm not here to teach you a script or give you a set of phrases that make you sound robotic when you're trying to talk to the person you love. Relationships involve real emotions, and difficult conversations can bring up defensiveness, frustration, fear, and hurt. My work focuses on helping you recognize those reactions, regulate when emotions are high, communicate more effectively, and stay connected—even when the conversation is difficult.

I also want to challenge the idea that couples therapy is only for couples whose relationship is in trouble. Sometimes, couples have a great relationship and genuinely love being together, but they're experiencing similar struggles as individuals—like anxiety, depression, stress, grief, or a difficult life transition. If you're already doing life together, why not work through some of those struggles together, too? Couples therapy can be a space to support one another, better understand what the other person is experiencing, and learn how to navigate difficult seasons as a team.

When I work with children, therapy can look very different. It can be messy. There may be glitter, paint, Play-Doh, games, and a little chaos. Children often communicate through play, creativity, and behavior long before they can put everything they're feeling into words, so I meet them where they are.

I also work with families from a systemic perspective. I believe people don't exist in a vacuum, and often the patterns, relationships, and environments around us matter just as much as what is happening within us individually. Together, we can explore those dynamics and find realistic, meaningful ways to create change.

I'm human, too. I occasionally drop an f-bomb. I get tired. I get burned out. I have biases. I'm not a robot, and I don't pretend to be a perfectly polished therapist with all the answers. What I can promise is that I will continue to learn, remain aware of my own biases, take responsibility when needed, and show up authentically in the work we do together.

I welcome referrals for individuals, couples, families, and children seeking support with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, family dynamics, life transitions, personal growth, and the general messiness that comes with being human. I accept both insurance and private pay and also provide clinical supervision for professionals.

With lifelong ties to the military, I'm also proud to serve military members, veterans, and their families.

You don't have to have the right words. You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to show up perfectly.

You just have to show up. I'll meet you there.
